LOVE CIDER? PREPARE TO BE SPOILT FOR CHOICE
Each autumn, we press every single apple in every single bottle of Saxby’s Cider right here on our family farm in Northamptonshire. So, just like good wine, our cider reflects the unique character of the season in which it was created. Mellow, fruitful and gorgeous to behold.
Our craft ciders are made to traditional recipes using modern methods and techniques but without artificial ingredients, colourings or flavourings. They’re naturally gluten-free and vegan and vegetarian friendly. And of course, they’re delicious.
We use apples from our orchards, which are stocked with the varieties we need to produce great cider such as Black Dabinett, Yarlington Mill, Kingston Black and Bramleys. For our fruit ciders, we add real juice for subtle complementary flavours.
Sparkling, still, original or fruity. Why not try them all for yourself?
OUR CIDERS
ORIGINAL
Our classic medium apple cider
5.0% ABV
-
Saxby’s Original Cider uses a blend of bittersweet and dessert apples for a perfect balance of tannins and acidity.
Slightly sweet, slightly sour, a mouth-watering combination.
3.4% ABV
CHERRY
-
A refreshing fruit cider that stays honest to both its apple cider roots and the added cherry juice — ideal if you enjoy a fruit-forward but not overly sweet beverage.
A medium dry, still cider made the traditional way
5.8% ABV
TRADITIONAL
-
This is a refined and elegant cider, harking back to the finest traditions of a barrel aged Normandy Cider in style. It is a finely balanced cider that is, sweet, sour yet still sharp. The tannins from the oak give hints of the vanilla present in the nose and also on the palate. (Written by by Cheryl Cade, Beer & Cider Sommelier and International judge)
RHUBARB
Our deliciously subtle rhubarb cider
3.4% ABV
-
Yorkshire rhubarb and Saxby’s Cider - a match made in sparkling cider heaven! A light cider with a balance of sweetness and acidity with a full rhubarb finish.
“The overall flavour of the rhubarb is the star here. The infusion of the fruit is done with care and has brought out the tart dryness of this unique flavour.”
”The lovely light straw colour is very beguiling. Rhubarb jumps out of the glass in a very inviting manner suggesting a light, crisp, pleasant drink. On the palate everything is in balance and harmonious resulting in a light, refreshing ,pleasurable drinking experience.”
(Comments written by Great Taste judges in 2020 awards)
”This is a well-balanced cider showcasing the best of both fruits but not disguising that this is a cider”

BLACKCURRANT
-
Saxby’s Original Cider blended with blackcurrant juice. This is our classic take on cider and black – bold and bursting with flavour. Real cider. Real blackcurrant from Herefordshire.
”Glorious blackcurrant red with lots of life in those shiny bubbles. Heady blackcurrant on the nose with a refreshing dryness to it. Well balanced sweetness with the tannic dryness making for a very pleasant mouthful with a long fruity finish. Appreciated the use of home grown blackcurrants and these are certainly the hero of the flavours, and well represented in a jolly decent cider.”
”A pleasing pale pink with sparkle, with blackcurrant masking most of the apple on the nose. We found a pleasing prosecco spritziness with a good combination of blackcurrant and apple happily well balanced by a sharp note at the end. A well made fruit cider.”
(Comments written by Great Taste judges in 2019 awards)
”Blackcurrant builds but is not sweet, followed by a little tartness, it then ends with blackcurrant picked straight from the bush. Beautifully balanced.”

STRAWBERRY
-
”The cider starts with the sweetness of apples followed by fresh field strawberries. It ends dry with red apples. There is a little surprising tartness so instead the strawberry sweetness dominating makes you want another sip. Perfectly balanced between apple and strawberry.”

PLUM
-
Saxby’s Original Cider has been blended with plum juice to create a mouth-watering medley of mists and mellow fruitfulness.
”A wonderful garnet colour. This has sweet apple and caramel notes on the nose, and the apples come through on the nose with a well-judged hint of plummy stone fruit on the finish. This tastes honest and clean and bright. A well made thing.”
(Comments written by Great Taste judges in 2019 awards)
”Red plum fruit sweetness that is well balanced with touches of tartness. The taste starts with a delicate mix of the plum skin tannins first, then progressing to a rich fleshy fruit. The fruit pairs beautifully with a delicate balance of apple, plum and damsons.”

OTHER DRINKS
SLIDER
-
Saxby’s Christmas Cheer is a cider-based liqueur which is like a mince pie in a glass. It’s a warming Christmas drink that complements Christmas Pudding, Christmas Cake and cheese. A real winter warmer for sipping and celebrating.
”Yes, it's redolent of mince pies on nose and palate, but happily has an intrinsic lightness and enough apple acidity to cut through the liquorous sweetness. Indeed, it would accompany mince pies and a coffee rather well, a lighter option than rich ports or PX sherry, easier on the constitution. As a sipper it's nicely balanced, with some pleasing cider tannins again cutting through the sugar. There's ample appliness, at an almost juicy level - really rather clever, and readily enjoyable.”
”Beautiful rich deep orange colour suggestive of saffron fields. On the nose, damp straw, wet hay with dried milk thistle leaves and baked apple, candied peel and brandy butter. Sweet but with a good balance of acidity and length. A lovely delicate aperitif that we feel would work with pâté.”

MÉTHODE TRADITIONELLE
Crisp Champagne-style sparkling cider
8% ABV
-
Our crisp sparkling cider is made the same way that Champagne is made, known as the Méthode Traditionelle. We use cider made with apples from our own orchards. We ferment and mature it in a tank for a year and then re-ferment in the bottle with some specially selected yeasts. The bottles are stored in our Dovecot which acts as our cellar with its very thick, old stone walls, and left for another year. The result is a fine sparkling cider with a rich mousse - a sort of Prosecco!
CHRISTMAS CHEER
-
A smooth blend of sweetness and sloe bitters. It’s great on its own or as a long drink with elderflower presse, ice and a sprig of mint or ginger ale. Try adding to Prosecco to make a delicious blush fizz.
“Both the apples and sloes are discernible in its fruity aroma with some interesting spicy notes. On the palate the tart fruit flavours come through nicely, with a small amount of bitterness that would help this carry through in a long drink. Sweetness is also well balanced, a rarity in this type of liqueur.”
”Warm tawny gold in the glass. Intriguing nose: sloes, baked apples and a hint of marzipan. An intriguing palate also: the weight of a mistelle, the cider and sloes mix harmoniously and there is a hint of juniper adding interest to the finish. Well-judged slight sweetness. A clever and appealing blend.”
(Comments written by Great Taste judges in 2020 awards - 2-star award winner)
”Sweet and warming on the tongue, red fruits pass into warm marmalade. It has a complexity reminiscent of dark Jerez sherries and ports.“

We are a Great Taste Producer, meaning we have won Great Taste Awards for five years in a row. Our Rhubarb cider was described as 'nicely balanced' and our Limited Edition cider as 'full flavoured'. The Judges particularly liked our Plum Cider and Sloe Gin slider which were both awarded a 2-star award. The Judges said the Plum Cider was 'crisp, refreshing and very drinkable'. We couldn't have put it better ourselves. As these are considered the 'Oscars' of the food and drink world, you can understand our excitement.
